Woops. While the Insurance Company is having its minions in the Congress and the White House put forth the line that greedy trial lawyers are the result of all of your ills (high car insurance rates, expensive doctor bills, incomprehensible increases in health insurance, etc.), meanwhile, their hands are busy ripping you off left and right with scams like this one in the Denver Post:
Colorado officials revealed Monday a pervasive kickback scheme in the real-estate title industry that forced consumers to pay inflated premiums.
The kickbacks, dating to 1997, involved some of the largest title companies operating in Colorado.
And who is involved?
Based on initial findings, Colorado builders that may be targeted in subsequent investigations include John Laing Homes, KB Home, Pulte Homes and Shea Homes, a person close to the investigation said.
...
The Colorado Division of Insurance has negotiated a settlement with one of the title companies, First American Title Insurance Co., which will refund $24 million to customers nationwide. The typical refund on a $150,000 home would be about $325.
...
State insurance officials said they are negotiating with another firm, Fidelity Financial Co., to reach a settlement. Fidelity operates title companies such as Chicago Title, Ticor, American Pioneer, National Title and Security Union.
Fidelity has voluntarily ended its alleged illegal practices nationwide, state officials said.
A third title company, Land- America Financial Group Inc., has refused to settle in Colorado, state officials said. The insurance division is seeking a cease-and-desist order against the company.
Nice, huh?
Let me guess - this is also the fault of greedy trial lawyers and activist judges?
