Every time I turn on the TV, particularly CNN, and the network wants to get the view of a Democrat, they bring on Joe Lieberman. Uhh, why? Joe Lieberman is NOT a Democrat! Oh, sure, he has a D in the party affiliation column. But Jebus, can the guy praise George W. Bush just a little more?
Howard Dean: Please, enforce some party discipline, and do NOT let this guy speak on our behalf!
Can you picture the Republicans sending out a liberal Republican (There are a few in Congress, and you RARELY ever hear from them) to speak for the party? No way. Never happens. But the Democrats let these people like Lieberman spend all day on the networks kissing Bush's ass.
No wonder people are confused about what the Democrats stand for. Bush and the Republicans spend all day trashing the Democrats and misstating what they stand for (and making idiotic claims that they do not represent American values). And then Democrats like Lieberman go public with every attempt to embrace Bush. Rather than taking prudent positions against Bush to establish Democratic values, it makes it look like many Democrats agree with Bush and the Republicans about the Democrats.
I'll tell you this: I would not be surprised one bit if in the 2000 election (where Lieberman ran as the Dem VP), if Joe Lieberman voted for Bush.
Please - lets all pray for a Democratic primary challenger against Lieberman.
Lieberman is a man of conscience. He is a Democrat on so many social issues. He allies himself with Bush on the Middle east because he thinks a free Iraq is better than one where people are raped and tortured.
My wife is a life long democrat and is nearly ready to give up that title, because of terrible things the activist wing is supporting in the name of hating Bush.
She doesn't like him, she hates his stands on the environment. But she also believes that freedom is for all humans, not just Americans. It used to be that was a stand Democrats would have taken.
Now it isn't the Hawks of the 80's aligning with the murderous despots for political reasons. It is the head of the DNC, who thinks another decade of UN / US protected inhumanity by Saddam funded by UN graft is better than finishing the job we should have under Bush Sr.
If you had been smart enough to choose Lieberman instead of that phony Kerry, You would have a Democrat in the white house. heck if you had chosen Gephardt the same would be true.
It is the Dean wing of the party the got Bush elected. By demanding the most extreme stands from any candidate to get the nomination.
