Every time something happens that shows the strength of the insurgency and terrorists in Iraq (yes, some of the people we are fighting in Iraq are insurgents, and some are just outright terrorists - we can admit that there are both, unlike the GOP, who labels anyone fighting America as "terrorists"), we hear Commander Cuckoo Bananas and/or his trusted sidekicks Cheney and Rumsfailed sputter some incomprehensible gibberish about how this just demonstrates - out and out proves their assertion that the insurgents/terrorists are getting desperate.
Of course. The most successful attacks against American forces are blithely written off as proof - EVIDENCE - that we are successful, that the insurgents are getting desperate, and that we are turning a corner (note to Commander Cuckoo Bananas - if you walk around in a circle, you will constantly be turning imaginary corners).
So in the spirit of our Commander and his legion of followers, I present the following good news:
Bomb kills 5 Marines; U.S. death toll nears 1,700
Note to the families: I am sorry for your loss, and that the cheerleaders in this country who were in haste to send your family off to die in a war that was unnecessary, predicated on lies, and that we clearly were not prepared for as a nation (either mentally or material-wise) are 99% of the time unwilling to share in the burden that they have unfairly asked your loved ones to carry themselves. The purpose of the US is to protect the US, its territories (of which Iraq is neither), or vital US interests. Not to engage in some folly 1/2 way around the world for a reason that has changed from month to month to month, where we first had to deal with Saddam Hussein's WMDs (which did not exist), where we had to get even with the 'guy who tried to kill my dad!' (which I am sure we can all appreciate, but was probably not worth the expense in blood and treasure), where we had to deal with "the dictator" who gassed his own people (gassed them, while we stood on the sidelines cheering him on - plus, we let plenty of brutal dictators continue to exist and receive aid from the US, so OBVIOUSLY this is a lie), to where we are now building a new and stable and free Iraq (after claiming to have a distaste for "nation-building".
I'm sorry for your loss. And I'm sorry that while praising the soldier, your government does very little to ensure that they have the best standards, best equipment, and the best moral causes to fight for.
